FAQs
Whether you are here for the silent films or planning your own trip to Ireland, here are the answers to the most common questions I get from the trail.
About the Films & Channel
What is "Companionship Hiking"? Companionship hiking is the heart of what I do. These aren't instructional vlogs or high-energy travel videos. They are invitations to walk alongside me. I film them so you feel like you're actually there—experiencing the rhythm of the path, the changing light, and the quiet moments between steps.
Why do you film without talking? Most of my films are designed as immersive, low-narration experiences. The silence is intentional. It’s meant to function as a meditative escape or "breathing room" for your day. It allows you to hear the wind, the rain, and the gravel underfoot.
Which film should I start with?
For Mythology: Watch The Táin Way. It follows the legendary route of Queen Medb and the Cattle Raid of Cooley.
For Rugged Coast: Watch The Beara Way. It captures the raw Atlantic weather of West Cork.
For a Peaceful Escape: Try The Solstice Hike on the Enniskerry Ridge.
Hiking in Ireland (Logistics)
Can I actually hike these trails myself? Absolutely. Ireland's waymarked trails are accessible to everyone. My films are the "inspiration," but I have created detailed Hiking Guides for each route to help you with the "logistics." You can find maps and parking tips for trails like Torc Mountain and Howth Head on this site.
What is the best time of year to hike in Ireland? Ireland is hikeable year-round, but:
May – September: Long days (light until 10 PM) and milder weather. Best for multi-day trips like the Beara Way.
Winter: Stark, beautiful, and quiet. Ideal for shorter days like the Bray to Greystones cliff walk, but requires better waterproof gear.
Do I need a car? Not always. Many of my featured hikes, like Howth and Bray, are accessible via the DART train from Dublin. However, for remote areas like the Beara Peninsula, a car is recommended.
Gear & Filmmaking
What camera equipment do you use? I film primarily with a Sony A6700 for cinematic landscape footage and a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for mobile shooting. Audio is captured separately using professional field recorders to get that immersive "ASMR" quality.
Can I use your footage? I offer content licensing for brands and creatives. If you would like to discuss a collaboration or licensing deal, please use the Contact Form.
Support & Shop
Do you sell trail guides? Yes. I am currently building a library of PDF guides that include the specific waypoints and "hidden" tips I learned while filming. Check the Shop (coming soon) or the individual Hikes pages for details.
How can I support the channel? The best way is to Subscribe on YouTube. If you want to go deeper, my Patreonsupporters get access to "Commentary Versions" of the films where I discuss the history and filmmaking process behind the hike.
